The Segment Coupler is an all-in-one gateway and fieldbus power supply which can be installed in Zone 2/Class I, Div. 2. The gateway of the Segment Coupler makes each PA device appear as if it was connected to DP. This relates to addressing, cyclic/acyclic data exchange, and the transfer rate. Segment design is clear and easy to understand without subnetworks. The gateway itself is configuration-free. All in all, these features significantly reduce engineering work. There are two types of Segment Couplers:

1. Basic Segment Coupler

The power output suits long cable lengths and high device counts. Device couplers provide explosion protection for live work at the spur where needed. Availability and a long service life are achieved through a passive impedance filter and a design optimized for low heat dissipation. The fieldbus diagnostic handheld (FDH-1) connects directly to test plug sockets located on the plug-in terminal.

2. Segment Coupler 1 (SK1) with intrinsic safety

SK1 is well suited for small applications with only one segment and a limited number of field devices. It powers a single PROFIBUS PA segment adapting current and voltage.

• Output: 12.6 … 13.4 V/100 mA
• Intrinsically safe, Ex ia (FISCO or Entity)
• Supports any PROFIBUS DP master at a fixed transfer rate of 93.75 kbps
• Fixed, high-availability terminator
• For all non-redundant masters
