Redundancy
High Availability through Media and System Redundancy
How redundant structures can help to prevent from system failiure?
To minimize the risk of a system standstill, redundant structures and/or components are available with PROFINET.
Media redundancy is based on ring structures which quickly enable an alternative communication path in case of a fault
whereas system redundancy uses doubled controllers to ensure uninterrupted process operation whenever one controller fails.
- Redundant communication structures (Media Rendundancy) and doubled controllers (System Redundancy)
- Ensuring high availability and uninterrupted operation through one fault tolerance and immediate detection

How to prevent from failure risk?
In a modern production facility, an extensive network architecture is required to ensure fail-safety. By implementing redundancies, critical system failures can be avoided. This allows for an automatic switch to a secondary, fault-free path or controller in the event of a failure of a controller or part of the network medium.
